Patent Litigation Support

We are intentionally a small firm because our low overhead allows us to work with clients who might otherwise be unable to work with experienced IP counsel. However, we also partner with firms who wish to litigate patent cases but may not have a ready supply of lawyers experienced in litigating them.

What we do

We can tailor our activities to your needs, but we do a variety of things, including:

• Developing infringement / non-infringement and validity / invalidity positions
• Developing claim construction arguments, and drafting and arguing claim construction motions
• Preparing technical expert reports
• Taking and defending expert depositions
• Writing summary judgment motions and oppositions
• Providing trial support

Technologies

We have experience litigating patents in a wide array of technologies, including 3D printing, nutraceuticals, environmental protection technologies, medical devices, cellular networks, hand-held gaming devices, high definition and smart TVs, Blu-ray players, and jet engine brush seals. Outside of the patent context, we also have significant experience litigating pressure sensitive adhesive technologies, in particular those used in medical applications.

Experience

Steven R. Hansen is a registered patent attorney with over 25 years of experience. He began his career as a patent litigator with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges in Los Angeles and is a former partner of that firm and of Rader Fishman & Grauer in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Northern Districts of California, the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the Eastern District of Texas.

Earlier in his career, while serving as Senior Counsel to the Los Angeles firm Lee Tran Liang & Wang, Mr. Hansen played a lead role on the team that achieved favorable outcomes for VIZIO, Inc. in a number of patent infringement cases brought by non-practicing entities.

He holds a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and worked as a chemical process and process control engineer before law school.
